Animals are my Life
I love animals...I don't understand people who don't love animals. But I absolutely despise people who harm animals, ANY animal. That's why I want to do my best to save any animal that has been wronged by people.
I'm currently enrolled in college, going for an Associate in Business Degree. I hope to one day start a resuce that will focus on helping antisocial ("aggressive" to most) dogs and cats become comfortable with people. So basically I want to save "unadoptable" dogs and cats from certain death, and make them adoptable. I also want to have space to save FIV positive and Leukemia positive cats, who are often immediatly euthanized, despite the fact that they can live with a high quality of life with their diseases.
Before college I worked over 2 1/2 years at a PetSmart PetHotel as a Nighttime Pet Care Specialist. I met many different dogs and cats. I am also currently volunteering at a local dog and cat rescue called Home 'Fur' Good. So I have a lot of experience with those animals. I used to take horse back riding, and learned some basic care of those animals, and am very comfortable with them (really, I'm comfortable with all animals). I've also worked another 6 months at the same PetSmart PetsHotel, gaining a little more experience. I have to quit again for school, but they are keeping me on as a seasonal employee.
The summer of 2010 I interned at the Wildlife World Zoo, where I worked with the hoof stock animals and a few different species (birds, small mammasl, and reptiles) in the Education Department. This opportunity was a great experience for me. During my time working at the zoo I saved 7 of the feeder mice from certain doom; adopting 3 myself, and giving 4 to a friend. Below you will see pictures of me with different zoo animals.
During the summer of 2011 I volunteered for a month at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, UT. They are the largest animal sanctuary in the U.S. and I learned a lot from them. I also took a week long, great workshop about starting your own nonprofit, which included getting finances for it that I think will be very beneficial to me. I volunteered with the birds and bunnies (only one day each), horses and pigs (a few times each), and cats and dogs (majority). I fell in love with many animals, of course, and it was hard to leave. But I am excited about using the knowledge I learned from my trip to start and run my own rescue.
My parents always tell me, "you can't save them all," and all I can think is, "why not?"
